Although many do not know it, Abu
Dhabi (not Dubai) is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It is also the
wealthiest city in that country and the second most touristic. However, his
plans indicate that he will be a good competition for Dubai in the future. In
addition, it is less than 2 hours from Dubai, making it a must-see. Here is the
updated travel guide for 2019.
What to see in Abu Dhabi?
Abu Dhabi does not have as many
attractions as Dubai but has some of the most spectacular in the United Arab
Emira and the world. Here are the best:
· Sheikh Fayed Mosque. The most famous Mosque in the United Arab Emirates is not in Dubai but Abu Dhabi. It is one of the largest in the world and undoubtedly the most luxurious. If you are looking for a spiritual experience, this is not the place; despite Fridays, it is closed so Muslims can pray; it has been a place built more with tourists than locals.
· Le Corniche. It is an 8-kilometre walk to the edge of the beach. It includes walking trails, cafes, and playgrounds. It is the ideal place to walk and view the city of Abu Dhabi skyline. It has the main public beach in the town.
· FerrariWorld. The first amusement park was inspired by the Italian brand—a must for fans of Ferrari and cars and for those who enjoy roller coasters.
· Louvre Abu Dhabi. If you thought that the only Louvre museum with works by Da Vinci was in Paris, you are wrong. In Abu Dhabi is the other Louvre, resulting from a millionaire agreement with the French government. The museum is without a doubt spectacular, with a focus on the art of the region but also on works by the most influential artists in the world. If you want the prices and details of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi,
· Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Famous for being the most expensive to build, the hotel is also renowned for its signature coffee: a gold-sprinkled cappuccino. The cost is 20 USD, but the minimum consumption to make the reservation is 27 USD. Le Cafe is open from 10 am to 10 pm, and reservations are recommended due to the number of visitors. How do I get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai?
There are three straightforward
options to go to Abu Dhabi from Dubai:
1. Take an organized tour that includes
the Mosque and is usually complemented by other activities such as Ferrari
World or the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum. Costs start at 50 USD per person. Click
here to see the available tours.
2. Hire a driver. Whether at your
accommodation, on websites dedicated to tourist services, or on your own, you
can contact different drivers to take you from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. It is very
comfortable to go at your own pace; above all, it can be very viable for
groups. Costs start at 100 USD.
3. Go on your own to Abu Dhabi. It is a
new way to go to Abu Dhabi since a few months ago, all means of transport did
not exist (or they were less efficient). The cost starts at 17 USD per person.

How do I get around in Abu Dhabi?
There are several options to get
around the city, and the most popular are taxis and bus lines.
·
Taxi in Abu Dhabi costs 10 AED (less than 3 USD) for every 5 km. It is
the most efficient and easy way to get around the city.
· Another option is public buses. And the fact is that, although all the lines do not yet appear in applications such as Google Mapbus, coverage is already throughout the city. The cost per way is 2 AED (less than 1 USD). If you transfer, it is considered a second trip, and another 2 AED will be deducted. Suppose you want to check the bus lines in Abu Dhabi in 2019. If you decide to use public transport,
you must buy a transport card in Abu Dhabi. The Dubai transport card will only
serve you to take the public bus that connects Dubai-Abu Dhabi; once inside the
city, you need to buy the Abu Dhabi transport card with an issuance cost of 5
AED (temporary) and AED10 (permanent).
Where to stay in Abu Dhabi?
There are three clear areas to stay in
Abu Dhabi: the Corniche (beach area), the centre of Abu Dhabi, and the area
near the Mosque. The best place if you are looking for luxury and exclusivity
is the Corniche, where you will find some of the most beautiful and expensive hotels
in the city. However, if the objective of your trip is to get to know the main
attractions of Abu Dhabi using as little time as possible in transfers, I
recommend the centre.
Finally, very close to the Mosque, you will find hotels with excellent value for money. The problem is that there is not much to do in the area beyond visiting this symbol of Abu Dhabi, so the cost and time of your journeys will increase considerably.
I stayed at the 4-star City Seasons Al Hamra Hotel paying USD 50 per night for two people. It has outstanding service, cleanliness, and staff, and the location is excellent since the bus that takes you to the Mosque and the Louvre museum (bus 94), the one that takes you to the Emirates Palace, and the one that leaves you at the bus station (bus 55) or the airport.
